We have zero tolerance for sexual harassment, exam malpractices

The founder of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, Monsignor JohnBosco Akam has said that the university has no form of tolerance for sexual harassment by lecturers against students, just as it does not also tolerate examination malpractices.

Akam while speaking to journalists at the permanent site of the institution, at Umunya, Anambra State at an event to flag off the admission of students for the 2014/2015 academic year, added that the university was positioning itself to be the Harvard University of Africa.

“What we are doing today is to acquaint you with our programmes and let you know that we have moved to our permanent site. We have been working hard to move the university to an enviable height, and we are almost there.

“We want to make university admission in Nigeria a different thing, and I can announce to you that by next week, we will unveil a world class portal which will help students to get their admission letter from any part of the world, and also accept request for us to process their accommodation and others”.

Akam said that Tansian University which was named after the Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi, does not tolerate any form of sexual harassment or examination malpractices.

“The few cases we have seen, we sent them away without any form of excuse. Recently, we had to send a professor packing, we don’t tolerate that here. We encourage hard work, and students are enjoined to read their books, as that is the only way to academic success.

“We aim at being the Oxford and Harvard of Nigeria. Other Universities may be the best in terms of land mass, but that is not the only yardstick for measuring the best, we want to be the best in terms of content, service delivery and professionalism”, Akam said.

He said though a Christian University, the doors of the institution were opened to people of all race and religion.

He described the tuition in the institution as one of the lowest among private owned universities, saying that the tuition/accommodation fee is N250,000.

This, he said, was affordable for parents who desire the best for their wards.
